"Untitled" (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop) by Rahele Jomepour
AMES, Iowa — An exhibition of work by Rahele Jomepour, an integrated visual arts graduate student at Iowa State University, will be on display March 13-20 at the ISU Design on Main Gallery, 203 Main St. in downtown Ames.
"Women in Iran: Ancient History to Modern Times, and Back" will feature a selection of paintings, illustrations (including a series on coffee cups) and digital illustrations Jomepour has created during her graduate studies at Iowa State. Her Master of Fine Arts thesis show will open with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13. Jomepour will present an artist's talk at 6 p.m.
Jomepour's art focuses on societal barriers between men and women and how she has experienced and overcome them. Originally from Mashhad, Iran, Jomepour received her bachelor's degree in graphic design from the University of Tehran in 2006. After working as a professional artist and published illustrator, she continued her education at Iowa State.
Jomepour's illustrations appear in two children's books published in Iran, A Beautiful Gift in the World and A Girl with a Heart Like Stone. She received an Award of Excellence for her "Censorship" series (acrylic on cardboard) in the Creative Quarterly 36 fine arts category and is featured in the CQ 100 Best of 2014 publication. Her work also was published in the Winter 2014 issue of the ISU Alumni Association's VISIONS magazine.
