Industrial design graduating senior Mariangely Iglesias Pena is ISU College of Design’s student marshal

AMES, Iowa — Mariangely Iglesias Pena of Carolina, Puerto Rico, will represent the Iowa State University College of Design as its student marshal at the university's public commencement exercises Saturday, Dec. 19, at Hilton Coliseum. Her faculty escort will be Steven Herrnstadt, University Professor of industrial design.

Iglesias will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree and a minor in digital media.

Iglesias Pena was on the Dean's List for five semesters at Iowa State. She studied in Italy with the College of Design Rome Program in summer 2015. She completed the 10-week Summer Program for Interdisciplinary Research and Education (SPIRE-EIT) through the Virtual Reality Applications Center and Human Computer Interaction program in summer 2015.

She also worked for ISU Dining for two years and was a member of the Game Development Club on campus.

Iglesias Pena will begin graduate study in January in the Master of Science program in human computer interaction at Iowa State.

She is the daughter of Maria Pena of Carolina, Puerto Rico, and a 2010 graduate of Carvin School.
