Internships are a great way to learn more about an organization or industry and develop valuable skills for use later in your education and career. Many employers prefer to hire graduates who have internship experience, which significantly reduces the amount of on-the-job training required.
To graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design, students who choose the Visual Culture Studies option are required to complete an internship during spring semester of their junior year or the summer between their junior and senior year. Students often find internship opportunities related to their second major or minor, especially in journalism, advertising, and museum/gallery studies.
Students in the BA program frequently intern at Iowa State's Brunnier Art Museum, the Octagon Center for the Arts in Ames, Des Moines Art Center, and Jocelyn Art Museum in Omaha.
